Welcome!

The Charleston Education Network (CEN) was founded at the turn of the twenty-first century, in the belief that there is nothing more important to the quality of life, to the long-term economic vitality, and to the strength of the social fabric of our community than high quality public education for every child.

Charleston's ability to take its rightful seat at the table of the new global economy is dependent on its ability to prepare its future leaders and workers for success in an economic and competitive world, a world that journalist and author Thomas Friedman describes as "flat."  No longer does America win by default because it occupies the high ground.  There is no more high ground.

Even more important than the economic implications of a high quality education for every child are the implications for the ongoing success of the Republic, what many have referred to as "the great experiment in democracy."  Thomas Jefferson counselled that democracy's existence and success depends on an educated and informed elctorate.

For these reasons, we believe that there is no more important work than ensuring a high quality eduaction for every child.
